Patient Participation Group

We are looking for patients to join our new patient participation group, we would like to hear from patients who want to be involved, please click on the Patient Group link opposite for further information.

Car Park - again !

Again, patients and visitors to the surgery are not being thoughtful in their use of the carpark. We all realise that space is limited, but please make sure that you leave the surgery carpark as soon as your business at the surgery finishes, and please do not leave your car there whilst you pop over to the Post Office or Lloyds chemist. Also, the area behind the back door and the driveway MUST be kept clear at ALL times for ambulances and other emergency vehicles. Absolutely NO blocking or dropping off in that area, or leaving your car there to pick up a script from the dispensary. This will help everyone who needs to visit the surgery. Thankyou.

FLU INJECTION

If you have NOT had your flu vaccination yet please contact reception and make an appointment with one of the practice nurses.

PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We held our first patient group on Thursday 18th August 2011.  Dr John Hughes chaired the meeting with Christine Milton (Practice Manager), Gillian Bonner (Receptionist) representing  the surgery and our invited guest speaker,  Mr Richard Allen, Business Manager of Abbey Medical Practice, Evesham.  Twelve out of the fifteen patients who originally showed an interest in being involved were able  to attend.  The meeting lasted for one hour in which Dr Hughes commenced by giving a short presentation on key areas around having a PPG.  PPGs are not a new concept to general practice, some practices have had a group for a great number of years just as Abbey Medcial Practice in Evesham have.  Their group has been running for seven years.  The main focus of the evening was to agree a mechanism for identifying what our patients think of 'how we are doing' at the surgery and it was agreed that a well constructed patient survey would be a good starting point.  Other members of the group would like to hold 'chronic disease' awareness events to help inform and educate patients who have either been recently diagnosed or been living with a disease for a long time.  This was found to be a good idea.

It was also agreed that the PPG should be run by the members of the group with assistance from staff at Barn Close Surgery, Richard Allen agreed that in his experience it is of vital importance that the members of the PPG feel that this is their group and that how it develops is up to them.  With this in mind the group are to identify a chairperson and a secretary.

It was agreed that the group should meet at the surgery on Tuesday 13th September 2011 between 12.30pm and 2.30pm so they can spend time getting to know each other and vote for a chairperson and secretary.

It was agreed that the PPG once developed would meet on a quarterly basis but in the shorterm we should meet again in one month's time and a date has been agreed for Thursday 22nd September 2011.

We are still very interested in recruiting patients for our group, we feel it is vital that  all patients are represented in all age groups for us to be successful.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED AND FEEL YOU WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE PLEASE CONTACT THE SURGERY AND ASK TO SPEAK TO OUR PRACTICE MANAGER, CHRISTINE MILTON
